The postage stamp depicts a Libation vessel dated XIX-XVIII cc. B.C. and discovered during the excavations of Karashamb Necropolis, located in Kotayk Region of the Republic of Armenia. The vessel was used for pouring wine during ritual ceremonies.

Goddess Astghik. In Armenian mythology, Astghik (“little star”) was the Goddess of Love, Beauty and Water and the beloved of the God Vahagn (the God of Thunder, Lightning and War). According to the Armenian myths, Astghik, an extraordinary beauty, bathed every night in the Euphrates River. To admire the naked goddess, the young men lit big fires on Mount Daghonats of Taron region. Protecting herself from the eyes of others, every night Astghik covered the entire Taron Valley with fog.

Best Europa stamp 2019 - Public prize

Armenia

Armeia is the winner of the 2019 Best Europa stamp contest organised by PostEurop. Turkey finished second and Finland is third.

It's the second time Armenia wins the best Europa stamp contest. The first win was in 2007, it was also the first year the contest became an online voting open to everybody !

The Best Europa stamp design competition is a yearly event. The first competition took place in 2002. All official Europa stamp issues can enter the competition.

The result of this competition was announced during this PostEurop's Plenary Assembly held last week in Jersey.

The stamp has been selected via the internet ! All people could vote through PostEurop's website !

A jury of 6 members (stamp designers, philatelic design directors, stamp collectors) awarded earlier this year, the Best Europa stamp - Jury prize to Slovenia !
