Part of the broader Age of the Sea Kings collection created in collaboration with Manx artist Juan Moore and historian Professor R. Andrew McDonald, which explores the maritime kingdom that thrived between 1079 and 1265, the EUROPA stamp focuses on the significant reigns of Rognvald and Olaf. These were key figures in the medieval Kingdom of Man and the Isles whose leadership defined the history of the Isle of Man and its surrounding islands.
Rognvald and Olaf Godredsson: Brothers locked in a fierce struggle for the throne, culminating in the Battle of Tynwald in 1229.

The stamp depicts the so-called ‘San Marino Whale’ (scientific name Titanocetus sammarinensis), an extraordinary cetacean dating back to the Miocene period, whose fossil remains were found in 1897 in a stone quarry near the summit of Mount Titano. The exceptional find aroused the interest of the international scientific community. The original finds are kept at the G. Capellini Museum of Palaeontology and Geology in Bologna, while the right hemimandibula, a cast of the skull, ribs and left hemimandibula are on display at the San Marino Natural History Museum

The subjects used are four of a total of ten votive figures. The solid cast bronze figures were found in 1932 in redeposited layers on the south-eastern slope of the Gutenberg castle hill in Balzers. They date from the Late Iron Age (500-100 BC) and are unique in their thematic composition. Together with compact layers of ash and animal bones, the figurines point to a nearby cremation site. Historians assume that the figures were offered there as symbolic sacrifices to a super-natural power.
The Gutenberg votive statuettes show influences from the Celtic and Rhaetian cultures and can be assigned to the three themes of war, fertility and animals. The very different quality of the depictions and the inconsistent composition of the bronze indicate different workshops and production times.

Europa 2026 - Common design competition
Europe
PostEurop announced today the common design who will be used on all 2026 Europa stamps on
the theme
“70th anniversary of EUROPA Stamps”
15 entries were submitted for the design competition and 50 postal organizations voting.
The winning motif is the one submitted by Finland
Designers : Klaus Welp who produced numerous Finnish stamps, including many Europa stamps (2011 ; 2015 ; 2018).
The design proposal of Bosnia and Herzegovina arrived 2nd and the one of Luxembourg 3rd.
PostEurop writes in their press release this about the story of the design:
In today’s turbulent world, there is an increasing need for peace, unity, and a strong community spirit, as well as reliable communication systems. A well-functioning national postal service is a fundamental pillar for democracies, providing security and connectivity for citizens. It was an honour to participate in this design competition and celebrate the 70th anniversary of PostEurop with this small piece of graphic art. As a designer, it is immensely gratifying to know that this stamp will be printed and published in so many European countries and shared across the globe.
At the start of the design process, I explored several visual concepts for the stamp. Together with Tommi Kantola, Design Manager at Posti, we refined one of these concepts into the final, winning proposal. With more than two decades of collaboration and over 120 stamp projects, our teamwork once again resulted in a successful outcome.
The design of the 2026 EUROPA Stamp combines abstract and symbolic elements. The diagonally ascending dotted line represents both the perforation of a stamp and the progressive work of the PostEurop. The seven dots, connected by a straight line, symbolize seventy years of unified effort by postal operators across the continent. The blending gradients and dotted patterns in the background form a cohesive and vibrant surface, reflecting the joyful mix of colours from the European flag and symbolizing the unity of all member nations.
